On Friday, April 3, 2026, the National Technical Museum (NTM) branches will open to visitors for the new season: the Center for Building Heritage in Plasy, the Railway Depot in Chomutov, and the Postal Museum exhibition in Vyšší Brod.

On Friday, April 3, the National Technical Museum opens its branches for the new season – the Center for Building Heritage in Plasy and the Railway Depot in Chomutov. This year, another non-Prague branch joins them in South Bohemia's Vyšší Brod. It is part of the Postal Museum, which was affiliated with NTM earlier this year.

The NTM Center for Building Heritage in Plasy celebrated an important milestone last year – the tenth anniversary of opening its permanent CSD exhibition. For this eleventh season, enriched and expanded exhibitions and new displays are prepared. One of them is the largest exhibition in our country dedicated to heating, titled Heating – Transformations of Heating Systems. It builds on part of the permanent CSD exhibition and, thanks to collection items from NTM and the Museum and Gallery of Northern Plzeňsko in Mariánské Týnice dating from the 19th and 20th centuries, guides visitors through the history of what seems like such an obvious topic as heating. The second exhibition, titled Two Centuries of Engineering Art, presents a cross-section of remarkable works by domestic creators of technical structures as well as the rich and historically valuable holdings of NTM's building collection.

The Railway Depot in Chomutov opens to the public for the summer season with the aim of presenting not only unique exhibits from NTM's railway collection but also the work of curators, whose main mission is to preserve technical heritage for future generations. NTM's railway collection is the largest state railway collection in the Czech Republic.

The Postal Museum in Vyšší Brod is located in the Cistercian monastery complex. On July 2, 2026, this branch will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its opening.

The extensive History of Postal Services exhibition captures the development and transformation of postal services. Six thematically and chronologically arranged sections are dedicated to the beginnings of Austrian postal service in the 16th–18th centuries, the turbulent development of postal services during the Industrial Revolution, the rise of telecommunications services in the same period, interwar Czechoslovak post, and not least, the era of Czechoslovak posts after World War II. The history of postal transport is brought closer by a unique collection of carriages, wagons, and sleighs. The Children's Postal Playground offers unique play elements focused on fun and education for young visitors.
