Over the weekend of 23–24 May, the National Technical Museum will join the Open House Prague festival. Visitors will have access to the Masaryk Railway Station Locomotive Depot – the future site of the NTM Museum of Railway and Electrical Engineering.
The grounds of the oldest railway depot in Prague offer a unique view of 19th-century industrial architecture. Visitors will be able to explore the site where, on 20 August 1845, the very first steam train arrived in Prague from Olomouc, hauled by a locomotive bearing the patriotic name “Bohemia.” This is one of the last opportunities to experience the authentic atmosphere of the former locomotive depot before its transformation into the National Technical Museum’s Museum of Railway and Electrical Engineering, scheduled to open in 2030.
As part of the accompanying programme for children, demonstrations will show how various railway devices function.
For all visitors, there will be a presentation of thematic illustrations by Jaromír 99 created for the NTM publication What Created the Railway, What the Railway Created, as well as an exhibition of geometric objects titled Sign Layer by artist Peter Demek.
On display will be the steam locomotive 464.102 “Ušatá” from 1940, the restored steam railcar M124.001 Komarek from 1903, and a postal carriage.
