What Made The Railways, What the Railways Made
The exhibition presents, in an original way, the story of modern rail transport as one of the key engines of global transformation. Through authentic exhibits, interactive elements, and artworks, visitors can explore its origins, technical innovations, and its impact on everyday life in society.
The exhibition primarily highlights the birth of the railway and the “golden age” of our railways during the monarchy period, but it is not conceived as a strictly historical or chronological display. Visitors will learn about the earliest beginnings of rail transport, see an almost two-hundred-year-old British-made steam engine, and view original artifacts from the early days of railway operation in our region. They can also try their hand as a station dispatcher using a fully interactive exhibit featuring an authentic interlocking device from a railway station.
With its diversity, the exhibition will captivate knowledgeable enthusiasts, but it also offers an engaging experience for everyone — including the youngest visitors. In addition to the interactive interlocking device, visitors can, for example, test how the Gooch valve gear works on a period model or send a message in Morse code. The exhibition also includes a playful children’s corner.
The exhibition titled “What Created the Railway, What the Railway Created” is the culmination of the NTM project “Year of European Railways 1825–2025.”
