Printing

The exhibition will try to tell a very engaging story of book printing from its invention to the techniques that were developed as a part of it, and will go on until the present day. It will cover not only in the Czech lands, but also in an international context.

We would liket to offer you an instructive and unusual experience enriched by an accompanying programme with an attractive design. It will be provokative and dynamic, and will enable your active participation and will give you a good overall impression and experience.

The National Technical Museum is the administrator of an extraordinary collection of printing and typesetting machines. The whole exhibition will be based on unique items such as the oldest surviving rotary press in Europe and an old wooden Schönfeld press from the Klementinium.

The Czech lands have been the site of some significant events linked to printing and also some important people, whose contribution we would like to explain to you, were born there. We also want to use the exhibition to tell the story of the long and rich development of printing in the Czech lands, from the first books to the latest techniques in digital processing.

The exhibition will provide you with information about the development of fonts and writing techniques, the invention of book printing and its early history, the benefits in the 19th century for the development of techniques and their consequences for the development of new machinery and printing techniques, as well as the later period when printing became industrial, and current trends in modern printing.

We expect there will be a rich additional programme, for example workshops on various topic will be organized there.
