Tools and implements

The collection contains models, prototypes and products since the 40s of this century. The first exhibit is a handle of vibration scissors ergonomically designed by sculptor Vincenc Makovsky for shoe-making industry in 1940. Handles of tools for shoe-making industry in Zlin, scissors, pliers, knives from 1943–1970 by Zdenek Kovar, a pupil of Vincenc Makovsky from the School of Arts in Zlin. He is also author of the set of wooden latches from the 40s to 60s. Shapes can be compared on plaster models in the scale 1:1 of electric drilling machines and spray guns created by pupils of professor Z.Kovar in Zlin (G.Hlavka, M.Klima) and graduated students from the Prague School of Applied Arts (S.Lachman, S.Tatousek, I.Moucha). Tools for textile industry and a set of surgical instruments come from the 50s to 60s.

Design of machines (models)

The collection contains fragments and photographs of models of machines since the 40s. The first plaster model of the radial lathe in the scale 1:1 by the artist Vincenc Makovsky from 1940 is represented in the collection by control levers. Control elements of metal-working and textile machines come from the 50s and 60s. A laminate copy of the model of horizontal cutter by Z.Kovar in the scale 1:1 represents an example of contemporary view of industrial design at that time influenced by organic morphology and technology of production of cast-iron coat of the machine. Other models are from the 70s and 80s and show principal changes influenced by the technology of pressed metal-sheet coat of a machine in the approach to shaping machines and complex engineering equipment (A.Richtr, G.Hlavka, J.Lahoda, M.Klima, V.Autrata, S.Kral, S.Malatinec). The futurological model of a machining centre by Svatopluk Kral (1985) represents a reflection of contemporary visions. The model of school lathe (the prize Good Design 1993) was made by Vaclav Reissner. Other engineering installations are represented by individual models, e.g. a dredger or an assembly plate for water reservoirs from the 80s by Jan Tatousek and Ivan Moucha, process unit of a grain mill by M.Cevela from the 70s, etc.

Design of transport vehicles

The most compact collection form the designs of Z.Kovar for Tatra Koprivnice from 1953–54. These are final model of the passenger car T603, models of steering wheel for the truck T137 / 138 – a semi-trailer cistern for this truck, model of the steering handle for aircrafts LET Kunovice. The collection is completed with models of high-lift trucks Desta and other machines from the 60s and 70s by S.Malatinec. Interesting exhibits are non-realized model studies of M.Klima (passenger car for Tatra Koprivnice from 1957) and V.Kasik (sports coupe Skoda from 1961). The period of the 70s is represented by designs of motorcycle JAWA 350 and three prototypes of steering wheels for passenger car ćkoda by J.Tatousek. The motor scooter „ZOOM“ by P.Skarka produced by PVD Slusovice is the newest exhibit in the field of industrial design in transport. This part of the collection is completed by a picture documentation of development in design of transport vehicles, particularly in the 50s and 60s.

Design of consumer articles

The collection comprises a development series of models and realized microphones from Tesla Valasske Mezirici (Czech Republic) designed by Frantisek Crhak from the early 50s to the late 80s. He collaborated with prof. Z.Kovar from the School of Applied Arts in Gottwaldov. The collection also contains several models and realized telephone sets for Tesla Liptovsky Hradok and Tesla Stropkov from the 50s-70s. The collection of illumination bodies, mainly lamps from the period of functionalism, is followed by a series of metal lamps from Napako Praha from the 50s-70s. The period of the 80s and 90s is represented by examples of Italdesign from the production of the firms Italiana Luce, Artemide and Alessi.

Technical toys

A new collection, which should documentate the modern technical toys for the children, mainly for the handicaped children. The toys are from wood, plastic or metall. In the collection are the toys from the Czech designer Svatopluk Kral too.
